Growing up, I never contemplated getting
into show business. Sure I did some elementry school plays, but as
early as the third grade, I wanted to be an Aerospace engineer.
I can remember my Dad giving me a Guillow's
Fokker D-VII flying model aeroplane to build. That was my imtroduction
into model airplanes.
As a kid during the 60's, the Space Race
continued to fuel my desire to get into the biz.
By time high school came around, I took the
entrance exam for Brooklyn Technical High School. My
major was aerospace engineering. We affectionately called Tech, "da Big
House".
Then I went to Polytechnic
Institute of New York, We named it, "da joint". Now it's
called Polytechnic University. Good old P.U.
After getting my B.S. in Aerospace
Engineering I entered the work force for Vought
Aircraft in Dallas Texas.. I hired into the Structures and
Systems test labs. While there I aided in testing of various aircraft
and missle systems. Then the urge to go on the road hit. So I was
assigned to places like Peebles, Ohio. Then I went to
Boston to work on some cold weather tests on the Orange Line.
Returning to Dallas, I transfered into Field
Engineering working on A-7 aircraft. It was during this time by fluke I
attended an audition for a local cable show. After seeing all the women
at the audition I figured I needed to take an acting class!
A sleazy Dallas agent ( I won't mention any
names as he's now a sleazy manager in Hollywood) represented me. I
booked my first commercial for Hardy's and worked several days on "Born
on the 4th of July". Oliver Stone was interesting to work for. I quite
enjoyed it myself. If you're looking for me in the movie, I wound up on
the cutting room floor. I appeared in a number of plays in the DFW area
from "Harvey". playing Mr. Wilson, to "The Odd Couple" playing Speed.
While attending the play version of "Young
Frankenstein" at the Onstage theatre, I was seated next
to a good looking blonde who had a great personality, we dated and
eventually got married.
One day my boss approached me and asked if I
wanted to go out to Los Angeles, I said sure, "for how long". He said
"forever".
That's how I wound up out here in Hollywood.
I've since quit my day job to pursue acting full time. Belive it or not, I'm an avid knitter.
